Obviously I seem to update Facebook and other social media more than my poor website.

The Pocket Gods have been very busy finishing off with a Christmas show at The Horn in St Albans. But we now have 12 Guiness book records and our last album, 1000x30 has had more than 1m hits.

The 30 second campaign for fairer royalties for musicians really is grabbing headlines.

I have also done and continue to do dep gigs with The Midnight Rebel Band , Beaky Band and From the Ashes as well as teaching term times in schools, at my studio and for The Bucks Rock Project.

I am also in rehearsals with the very talented Frances Rodinio (Cayio) with a new acoustic folk sound with great friend Allan Burls on bass, so look out for new music coming soon.
Scott Ottaway - Official Websitetag:www.scottottaway.com,2005:Post/70824412022-10-16T16:12:32+01:002022-10-16T16:25:07+01:00Round up of September and early October
September and October saw me filling in for 5 gigs with the Beaky Band. Tony Carpenter, who Beaky in Dave, Dee, Dozy, Beaky Mick & Tick, fronts the normally 3 piece band.

This included a trip to play in Eastbourne at the Marina Club house. This was a charity gig for Wet Wheels charity.

At the end of the month, I will be playing with David Graham, (whose band includes good friend Alan Howell) in Bristol

This is a 70s shows and all to click and tracks.

Buckets For Bongos has gone from strength ti strength. 4 Showcases and 5 care home shows took place early October with another 5 late October and 3 in November.

This really works for Dementia patients, taking them back to happier times through music and with them playing and singing along.

This is part of the Launton Arms family Funday.

There will be activities, food and drinks all day long, with From The Ashes playing from 7pm.

I will be on drum duty with the band, so come and say hello and enjoy a night of rock music. Not to be missed!

I played for 3 hours and on the video page, is a very edited video of those 3hrs. It was rather rushed from my point of view. I was on holiday when I was asked to take part and on my return, had 2 days to sort everything out. I had already sorted out my set for 3hrs of playing, but had never really played for 3hrs solid for a long time. Searchers shows were 2hrs. I managed to download software to remove drums and the set list was complete. Sadly, I forgot to add click tracks to the songs. School boy error. It also appears for the first 2hrs, my right hand cymbal, the lead had come out. Also, my home made ekit snare was playing up. This has now been replaced by a pro made Jobeky snare drum. I'd like to thank Drumathon for asking me, I will be more prepared for 2023. Thank you to Jobeky (who sent me loads of equipment), Liberty drums, Code drum heads and Pellwood drum sticks. 1st set was Searchers songs, 2nd set my fav songs of Queen and from We Will Rock You, 3rd set more Queen, songs I've played on (Powder Monkeys, The Pocket Gods) then more fav songs I enjoy playing.
Scott Ottaway - Official Websitetag:www.scottottaway.com,2005:Post/70116462022-07-10T16:38:37+01:002022-07-10T16:38:37+01:00Major update of last 6 months
Really sorry, no updates since January! Thats poor.

Since then, The Pocket Gods have released another album and received another Guinees World record certificate for most downloadable albums, 75!

We also have a new album coming out soon and are currently doing a NUBTV and Amazon Prime show.

I was the drummer in Rugby Theatres production of A Slice Of Saturday Night. Set in the 60s the funny story tells of a bunch of young adults who frequent a night club with live entertainment, like the Cavern. I was on stage for the whole show, with the talented band starting 10 minutes before the official start and 15 mins during the interval. It was a very talented cast and I was so proud to be involved.

I had a few issues with my home made snare and after speaking to Jobeky to sort out the issue, they very kindly sent me a Jobeky snare drum. Thank you!!!

Sorry it has been so long since an update, but Happy New year and lets hope 2022 is a much better one.

So far for me, it has been.

On January 11th I joined 'Drums In Schools', teaching junior children in Aylesbury schools how to play drums.

Drums in Schools was founded by James Manders, a good friend and amazing guitarist, 4 years ago.

James has asked me to join his school twice before, but because of my touring commitments etc, I was not able to fully commit. When he asked me again in December 2021, I jumped at the chance.

I have also re-joined the MK Rock Project, teaching with them in Leighton Buzzard on Tuesday evenings and Buckingham on Wednesday evenings. Of course, I already work for the Bucks Rock Project in Aylesbury on Monday evenings and High Wycombe on Thursday evenings.

If you have a child who wants to learn an instrument (Vocals, Guitars, Bass Guitars, Drums or Keyboards) then The Rock Project is a great way for them to learn and interact with other like minded people.

If you want to learn in Aylesbury or High Wycombe, call Mark on 07545 828590

In Milton Keynes, Buckingham, Dunstable or Leighton Buzzard, call Chris on 07816 669659

Scott Ottaway - Official Websitetag:www.scottottaway.com,2005:Post/68009582021-11-07T13:09:03+00:002022-05-16T18:30:26+01:00So many shows!!!
Sorry the site has not been updated since August, but there has been so much going on.

Theatre shows with Bella Popera (Pictures and video to follow) Miracle Cure, Pocket Gods and a few last minute dep gigs thrown into the mix.

I also started up, Buckets for Bongos, which is me going round schools, psychic and wellbeing fairs, promoting how drumming, even on a bucket, can raise your endorphin levels, therefore putting you in a happy mood.

Don't forget if you need a drummer, or Buckets for Bongos at your event, call me on 07944577004

You've probably now heard that John, Frank & Spencer are bringing The Searchers back for a solo tour in 2023.

I have had the honour of being a custodian of the Searchers drum throne for over 9 years & it was a wonderful experience, one I will never forget.

I was informed on Friday 1st October 2021, that I would not be involved in the 2023 tour, so I would like to take this opportunity to thank the band, & most importantly, you, the fans, for the spectacular memories. We play for you, to bring you the sounds that you love, & the music you hold so dear to your heart.

Enjoy the shows & thank you for making me so welcome & for taking me into your hearts & homes.

Lots of love.

Performing in exclusive venues across the UK, and with their exponentially growing online presence, the acclaimed pop opera group Bella Popera consists of three young sopranos who are a crossover sensation. They sing classical. They belt rock. They wow audiences with their breathtaking set of operatic arias, chart-topping medleys and modern covers. Having seen them perform in London, celebrity investor Deborah Meadon had little doubt that their original three-part harmonies of chart-topping hits were heavenly indeed - “Voices of Angels”.

Crossover is the name of their game. Meaning that Bella Popera deliver classy classical arias such as Carmen’s Habanera and Delibes’s Flower Duet with style and flair. But as the applause continues to reverberate around the performance venue they immediately take off, naturally and effortlessly, into the world of pop and rock, of Boogie Woogie or Motown – and much more besides. Versatility is their watchword. Belting Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus – but with a classical twist. Singing Havana by Camila Cabello with innovative operatic harmonies. The Bella Popera girls also know how to engage with audiences throughout their show – in which there is always something for everyone to enjoy.

I will be playing drums with these amazing women. Our first rehearsal took place on Tuesday 24th August and you can buy tickets to this unique show now, but they are selling fast!

Drum wellbeing seminars, The Pocket Gods, Johnny Altman, The Deps, Uproar, Miracle Cure and Rock Project!
A time of reflection on 4 gigs which has seen me travel to Reading, Lincoln, London, Bath over the last 2 weeks, 2 rehearsals, 2 stand in teaching jobs and 2 drum wellbeing workshops.

Started with a dip gig, with The Dips. Called up at short notice by great friend and bassist, Allan Burls after their drummer got 'pinged'

This was a wedding gig and the bands first using backing tracks and in-ears.

All went really well and a great, hot night was had by all.

That was followed by a mother wedding in Lincoln, with Uproar. Another dip gig and another extremely warm night, packed dance floor and a happy crowd.

I was also asked to fill in for The Rock Project, Bucks, after their drum teacher, yeah you guessed it, got pinged.

This was teaching 3 lots of groups, from kids to adults. I think they all warmed to me and looks like next term I will be helping them a lot more.

My wellbeing drum seminars really have taken off. I have done 2 at the Psychic and wellbeing fairs in Aylesbury and Thame.

We sit in groups and I show you how just playing on a bucket with music or others can really raise your happiness level.

People are sometimes nervous at the start, but by the end they are joining in and smiling away.

Then it was The Pocket Gods rehearsal and gig with Johnny Altman.

The rehearsals went well and the show was a blast. It was filmed, so hopefully that will emerge soon and there are more shows planned with Johnny.

Then on the road with Miracle Cure. I last played with them in 2019, but have been booked for 10 weddings over August and September.

What I love about this band is the fiddler who joins us for the 2nd half and really lifts everything with Irish jigs and music. Always my favourite part.

Now it is back to studio work for a few days, then weddings and another Wellbeing seminar on the 8th in Launton, Oxfordshire.

This time we recorded the Beatles track, Saw her standing there. Vocals were supplied by Spencer James and Alan Lovell, with Alan recording his vocals and guitar parts in my studio.

The insurance have finally paid out and now I am slowly replacing the lost equipment.

Hopefully it looks like the UK is slowly coming out of the lockdown and life can start to to find a new normal.

I still feel live music and theatre shows are still a long way away from starting up just yet.

I can't believe the UK government still have not looked to bail out the UK music/theatre industry. The self employed scheme was a god send, but the next instalment is not till August! Luckily I have managed to pick up a lot of studio work and long may that continue. The Rock With The Ott clothing range has also helped. I am currently working with a local designer to make a rockier logo to emblazon the front of t-shirts.

Yesterday (Saturday 13th June) I finished 2 tracks for a solo artist and since lock down, I have recorded drums for over 20 tracks.

If you require drums, get in touch!

Hopefully when the music scene re-starts, we can all meet at a show and enjoy a drink together. Till then, stay safe.

So far, these tracks sound great and are some of Marks best songs to date.

It is hoped these will be released in June, to tie in with Marks 50th.

After 3 weeks, I finally finished it on May 5th.

The gold rims will be delivered once they are back in stock, so I put some chrome ones on just to see how it sounded.

As its a 14x5 snare, I knew it would be a short high pitched sound, but I was shocked to hear it had a very warm sound to it and certainly not a sound that kills your ears.

So after 3 coats of tung oil, 3 coats of wax, a few dodgy drilling moments, it was finally finished and I am very happy with how it looks and sounds.

So far they have been happy with the recordings, with just 1 more track to finish.

I have been recording the sessions, so hopefully soon, I will edit a mini documentary which I will put on Youtube.

I used my Liberty drums, with mesh heads, and Roland triggers, plugged into a Roland TD30 brain.

Each drum/cymbal has its own channel is then fed into my Scarlett 18i20 which in turn goes into my Apple Mac

I am currently trialling a new software, PreSonus, Studio 1

So far I have been very impressed with the Studio 1 software and found it a lot easier than ProTools, but with the same results.

As for the recordings, they have come out much better than I hoped. Soon I will set the kit up with real cymbals and Code drum heads and see what sound I get with the real sound of drums.

Also, if anyone needs drums on your tracks, I"m your guy!

February 9th
On Sunday February 9th, despite the major storm, I travelled to The Vertical Rooms studio in Royston

I was asked by some very talented musicians, to help them with a rehearsal they had booked, which included playing along to backing tracks.

A great day was had and I was able to use some equipment I bought years ago for the sole purpose of playing tracks. Thankfully it all worked.

It was also great to sit behind my Liberty concert tom kit again and play for over 4 hours.

The journey there and back was a little scary at times and unloading in the pouring rain still did not ruin a very productive day.

Scott has designed, with the help of his wife Sam, a stunning new logo inspired by his Liberty drums.

For 3 years, Scott has played a Black sparkle with Gold hardware, Liberty kit, a kit he loves so much, that when it came to designing a logo, it was obvious he had to use those colours.

This logo has now been embroidered onto t-shirts, fleeces, beanie hats and sports caps. All these products have been hand tested and inspected by Scott for quality.

If you order by 7th December, not only will we guarantee Christmas delivery, you will also receive a Cancer Research UK Christmas card, personally written and signed by Scott and Sam.

When you leave your address details, please add who you would like the card made out too.

Titled Nub at The Social, there will be several other acts on The Nub label playing.

We recorded a new album in June, but all 3 members have their own studios, so each member recorded their parts and sent them to Mark to edit.

I must admit, the new songs Mark has written show a whole new side to his song writing and the bands style.

I can't wait to play these songs live.

The 3 night stay saw me doing 5 band sets and 1 trooper show. The show was called Regal and has 9, 8-12 minute medleys, all to click/track.

The medleys paid homage too, Queen, Madonna, David Bowie, Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Prince, Elvis, Michael Jackson and.... Queen ('We Will Rock You' show medley)

I was given the medleys early October and I decided there was no way I would remember them all, so charted them all out.

I really enjoyed my 3 days at Trecco and what was officially the last week of the season and my 3rd time filling in this year.

The guitarist Richard is leaving the band after this contract and 3 years at Trecco bay to look at new ventures.

I wish him all the best!

Their drummer Phil would be taking some time out to look after his wife. She needed an operation and someone to look after her while she recovered.

The Trems are currently on the Sensational 60s Experience tour and luckily are only on stage for 20 mins.

At the same time, Joe was also off the tour, as he too had just had a little operation and the band had Chris Savage (MUD 2) deputising on keyboards.

Headlining the show is Mike Pender!

Obviously I agreed and on Thursday 17th October, I travelled with the band to York for my first show with them. I was ready for playing the hits with a new band and playing a venue I had played many times with The Searchers, but I was not ready for the reception I got when Jeff introduced me.

This continued for the other 2 shows I did with The Trems (Weston Super-Mare and Llandudno) and I would like to thank everyone who cheered for me and spoke to me at the meet and greets after.

I was already booked on another show, so could not do any more shows after Llandudno.

On the tour I did meet Mike Pender. He knew exactly who I was and we chatted for ages in Weston. I asked if we could have a picture together. He laughed and said 'that will upset a lot of people" "Brilliant, lets do it" I replied.

He asked how Frank and John were and I must admit, he was a very friendly person.

Early August, lead singer Thatch called me and asked if I could fill in for 2 dates, 30th August and 7th September

I was honoured to be asked and agreed.

First gig was near Ringwood as support to The Glitter Band. As it turned out I knew the guitarist who is also in Les McKewans Bay City Rollers.

On this gig, the drummer, Phil, kindly let me use his kit. This helped as space on stage was tight.

The 2nd gig was for Hithcox out door cider festival.

We were due to go on stage at 10pm till midnight.

As always these events over run, so we took to the stage at 10.20pm till 12.15am and it was one of the coldest gigs I have ever done.

Fair play to the crowd for staying till the end!

It was another great night of Irish music and following the fiddler.

I won't lie, I really love these gigs and seeing the crowds jig all night long.

For this gig (my main kit was on Slydes van) I used my studio kit with mesh heads and triggers, triggering my Roland TD30.

It meant I could keep the sound down in case the venue had a limiter fitted. Thankfully it didn't ,but the singer was grateful to not having to sing over the drums

Journey. Don't stop believin'
Drum Cover. Journey. Don't Stop Believin'

I love this song and Steve Smith as a drummer.

Last year I did a dep gig and had to learn it. It was only then I realised how complicated it is.

This year and another Dep gig with this song. So I downloaded a drumless track, with no click, and recorded me rehearsing it.

I had a few issues with the triggering on my crash cymbal, it does nearly fall apart towards the end and I know I'm not playing it exactly like Steve, but its my interpretation.

Enjoy!

Queen. Bohemian Rhapsody
Brian May & Roger Taylor have decided to redo 3 Queen videos with members of the public.

For musicians, its Bohemian Rhapsody.

You had to film yourself miming to your favourite part.

I did this and submitted it, but I then decided I would record myself playing the whole song.

So I tracked down a drum less track (it also had no click) and recorded myself playing along.

Bistro Live MK
On Saturday 3rd August, I was once again a dep for The Mix band.

I played with them at Bistro Live, Leicester last year and this time it was closer to home in Milton Keynes.

Another great night was had with loads of Hen nights and Birthdays being celebrated.

We performed a 25 minute set of acoustic numbers, then after a 40 minute gap, returned to rock them with a fast paced 45 minute set.

The only down side to these gigs is, you have to wait till 1am to pack down!

Their drummer is also a sound engineer, so gets called up for theatre shows.

As this was just a one nighter, all I had to take was my snare drum, cymbals and pedal, while using Pietro's DW kit

ELO Mr Blue Sky
You wait for ages, then 2 covers come along at once.

This time its ELO and mr Blue Sky.

A song I have always loved, but never played live until a recent departure gig where it was on the set list.

I enjoyed playing it so much, I downloaded a dodgy version with no drums and recorded it right away

Radio Ga Ga
I decided to do a quick drum cover of my favourite Queen track to play live, Radio Ga Ga.

The reason I liked playing it live, is because of the audience participation during the clapp hands section.

I've seen Queen live a few times and from the crowds view its amazing. The biggest crowd I have played it to was over 300 with what looked like everyone doing the double claps.

I can only imagine the view Roger gets every time he plays it live!

Adam is actually the drummer for the band, but has a back injury.

The set list was send and songs learnt.

Adam was at the gig making sure everything was ok as the wedding had over 200 guests, who all had a great night.

The venue has a policy that all live music must finish at 10pm! disco by 11pm! so it was an early start with the band going on at 7pm till 8pm. then 9pm till 10pm

In between us, the bridemaids had worked out a dance section which everyone loved.

There was also a very fine selection of Indian food, which all band members really enjoyed.

The band play there regularly and have been together for over 10 years.

On this date, their normal drummer was on holiday and the dep was playing with a few of my mates in the NBS band in Aylesbury.

So the members of NBS contacted me and asked to to be a dep to the dep!

The place was packed and when we finally finished at midnight the crowd were still chanting for more.

When we got chatting, we realised we had all met a few years previously at Allan Burls wedding and had jammed together that night.

I first met him in March this year and he called me up Monday to see if I was free Tuesday.

Luckily the kit was supplied as the video was shot in a rehearsal studio.

I still took my cymbals, snare and made sure my cases advertising Liberty drums, Istanbul Mehmet cymbals, CODE drum heads, Hardcase and Pellwood were on display.

The shoot lasted 5 hrs and by the end I knew the 5 songs inside out.

Hopefully when the video is edited, I will be able to post it on here.

Needles & Pins
I finally got round to editing a drum cam I recorded weeks ago. Needles & Pins!

My reason for doing it was because live, Frank insisted on me playing it '4 to the floor' which did give it a kick.

Over my 9 years, I got a few comments about me not playing it correctly etc, but as a hired hand, I was playing it correctly.

So, I recorded a version incorporating how Chris played it and how I played it live.

The video is in my video section of this site

Nr Reading
I joined forces again with Miracle Cure, Wedding band for a wedding just outside Reading on 13th July.

It was another very warm day and we all arrived at 6,30pm for a 7pm load in and 8.30pm start.

As most weddings do, this one over ran and we managed to get in at 7.50pm, but somehow we still managed to start at 8.30pm.

The venue has a strict 11.30pm curfew and we pushed it to the limit. The Security were not impressed and finally told us to stop at 11.45pm, much to the disgust of the crowd.

And I get to play with these great musicians again on the 20th!

This was my bread and butter gig before The Searchers but sadly Trecco Bay has the only resident band left in the UK!

This really is a sad state of affairs.

Pierto their drummer was doing front of house sound on a touring show, so over the last few weeks had deppped this gig out to various drummers.

The band play 6 nights a week, 2 sets and on Saturday back the 'Troupers' on their Rock show.

The Rock show has a great selection of songs. Jump, Mr Brightside, We Will Rock You, Living On A Prayer, Teenage Kicks, One Way or Another, Place Your Hands, Sex on Fire, Don't Stop Believing and Don't Look Back In Anger.

With dancers and singers covering the stage.

I managed to get use to staying in a caravan again, being bored during the day and eating what ever you could on site.

In fairness to Trecco Bay, they do have a good selection of shops and a pub that serves breakfast at £3.95!

Pierdo has a few more shows he needs to do later in the year, so I may end up back at Trecco...

I was asked last summer if I could dep for the band on an Irish wedding and it was one of the best nights I've ever had behind the kit.

Tristan has kept in touch and asked a few times, but I've always been booked.

This time we travelled to a forrest outside Kings Lynn to play in a marquee, with me stopping off on route to see my good friend, Andrew Weeden in Ely.

This was another Irish wedding and it was one of the warmest days of the year.

The crowd once again enjoyed the bands selection of songs and Irish jigs.

I drank loads of water and my shirt was soaked at the end, but another great night was had.

In 2008, the band I was in (Knight Sounds) which had just finished at Camber Sands, moved to Trecco Bay.

I decided to move back to Aylesbury. So this will be my first time there.

I won't know the set list till a week before, but I'm guessing a lot of the holiday park classics will be in it.
Scott Ottaway - Official Websitetag:www.scottottaway.com,2005:Post/57977682019-06-20T09:01:57+01:002019-06-20T09:01:57+01:00Drum Covers
I decided after doing quite a few deep gigs, that I would record a few drum covers of the songs that I have enjoyed learning and playing.

I managed to find some dreamless tracks of the songs and managed to record 2 before I got the WWRY audition call.

I will get round to recording more and editing the videos, but the first one is Queen's Somebody To Love, which I recorded a few days before my audition.

In 2005 to 2007 I lived in Great Yarmouth and became good friends with fellow drummer, Jason Keyte. He also owned The Anglian Drum Centre and I taught students to play drums out of there in 2006.

He can't make the gig on 22nd, so messaged me asking if I could do it.

The set list has 13 Beatles songs and 1 Searchers, but I still agreed to do it.

Once again, I will putting on my old Searchers suit...
Scott Ottaway - Official Websitetag:www.scottottaway.com,2005:Post/57977662019-06-20T08:42:21+01:002019-06-20T08:42:21+01:00Roger Taylor and WWRY
On June 5th, I received a phone call asking if I would like to audition for my favourite musical, We Will Rock You.

It will be touring again later this year, from September till June 2020.

The audition was in London on June 11th and I arrived at 10.30am for a 11.30am audition.

I was originally told that it would be just drums and MD Stuart Morley on piano and that Roger Taylor (my hero) would also be there. When I turned up, I noticed Neil Murray (Black Sabbath, White Snake, Snake charmer, Brian May &WWRY) was there and playing bass. He will be on the tour.

For me, this made life a little easier having Neil who I've played with before, there.

I was met by the agent Sylvia at 11am, telling me Roger was running late but as soon as he arrived, we would get under way.

From the waiting area, I was able to see Roger arrive and go into the studio. It was then the nerves hit!

I was met by Stuart Morley and walked into the studio. I was introduced to Roger and he instantly shock my hand and said 'Scott, how are you? Really looking forward to this"

I then chatted to Neil while setting the studio kit up (I took my own Liberty snare and bass drum pedal) Roger commented on my snare and talked a little about The Searchers.

We then launched into Seven Seas Of Rhye (I was really nervous during this one) i managed to calm down for Somebody To Love and One Vision. So much so, that when we finished, Roger asked Stuart if we had played to a click. Stuart informed him we hadn't and it was all live.

As I packed up my equipment, We all chatted some more and Roger commented that I had a great left hand, so much power!

I found out 2 days later that it was close, between me and 2 others, but it had gone to someone who had a lot more West End and musical experience.

I wasn't as upset as I thought I might be. I had played in front of my hero, I had not embarrassed myself and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Scott Ottaway - Official Websitetag:www.scottottaway.com,2005:Post/57797072019-06-04T19:58:40+01:002019-06-04T19:58:40+01:00AWOL Dep gig
I was asked by the AWOL band if I could deposit for them for a 60s Birthday party just outside Berkhamsted on Sat June 1st.

I was given the set list 2 weeks before and loved the list as soon as I got it.

On the day, I turned up to the house and we were playing in a marquee. The party was for the dad to the actress who played Cilla Black in the musical Cilla.

I had met her a few times as my good mate Alan Howell, was also in the show.

We were booked to play 9pm-10pm, then 10.20 to 11.20pm. Due to several requests and the crowd refusing to let us stop, we all played till 11.45pm

It was a really great night and I may even play a few more AWOL gigs in the future.

Because of this gig set list and a few other gigs I have done recently, I have decided to record a few songs and I will upload the videos soon

My first game was 4 years ago on what was one of the last games to be played at Upton Park.

For the last 3 years, I have been sent to Q.P.R and Loftus Road.

The players pay a lot of money to play these games and they will play with a few legends from the club.

The officials (4) all have 24.5 minutes to be the referee, assistant (x2) and 4th official

This year, 2 of the 3 other officials were young Q.P.R fans, so myself and the other official decided these 2 could officiate 1 half each, with myself running the line and the other official (who was also officiating later that evening) being 4th official.

It was a cracking game and everyone had a great day and I'm sure a lot of money was raised for Football Aid.

This jam night is usually packed with talented musicians and the house band has 4 drummers, who rotate on a 4 week basis.

I had been to the jam night a few times in the past, so when Dave called I had no hesitation to say yes.

I quickly grabbed by kit and headed to Camberley.

The night was great fun with several musicians getting up, sadly no other drummer did, so it was just me playing for 2.5hrs!

So playing Queen songs is second nature.

In March I was contacted by Mick Mason, the bass player from Queen tribute, Real Magic, asking if I could dep for them for a gig in Leeds on April 27th . Of course I agreed.

The band capture the essence of Queen from their Wembley '86 days.

I arrived in Leeds very early and several days before made sure my kit was ready. You will remember in February I took delivery of concert toms from Liberty drums. These were replicas of Rogers current kit, so it made sense that I would use this kit.

Now after having a drum tech for 9 years, I realised the full kit would not fit in my car on the morning of the show! and I accidentally left both my tom stands at home.

I only realised this at 4.20pm in Leeds. Thankfully I have a drummer friend, Lee Marsden, who lives in Rotherham and he lent me his tom stand for the night.

It meant instead of the standard 3 toms, I had to use just the 10' & 12' similar to how Roger had his set up for the early Queen + Paul Rodgers shows.

The show was a success, with over 300 people going home Rocked!

The band have asked me to dep again in July for a festival date in Ireland.

I have also bought a larger car!

The session was for a cruise company doing 2 theatre shows. Ready Freddie & Elementum and we recorded about 26 songs.

I read the score for the majority of the session and a few times remembered to press record on the video!

Wavendon is a very intimate venue that holds around 455 seats and is a great venue.

The only downside is the back stage area is just 4 dressing rooms and a green room which holds around 15 people. Ok for a normal gig, but when its a bands last ever show after nearly 60 years, it means its going to be very cramped.

There was all sorts of people back stage. Friends and family members from all 6 members (band, Phil & John S) as well agents from abroad and a few famous faces.

I also had family and friends in the audience (they had bought tickets) so I met them in the auditorium before the show. After the customary trip to the local Wetherspoons for food. There I met and had photos with people before disappearing at 7.30pm to get ready for an 8pm show.

This show sold out hours after going on sale and there were a few people in the cafe asking if anyone had a spare ticket they could buy.

The venue themselves asked us to do another show on 1st April, which was turned down and even asked us to do a matinee on the 31st. Again this was turned down due to us being in Weymouth the night before.

The band walked out as normal, but on this occasion we were greeted by a standing ovation. This caught us all out and Frank turned to me as Mike Read belted out as he always has done for 20 odd years and Frank was close to tears.

The show proceeded like every show I have been involved with in the last 9 years. there was the odd occasion where I had to stop reminding myself 'Thats the last time I'll play that song' Farmer John did get to me in the first half as I love that song.

The 2nd half was like any other show, but it was during Needles that it suddenly dawned on me.

I took my phone on stage for the 2nd half and managed to get a quick shot at the end of When you walk in the room and before the start of the hits medley.

At the end we had a hectic meet & greet with one very large queue. We then shot off to quickly change and then have some food at the 'party' after.

My party was cut short as I had to load the drums into Sams car. Its amazing how much equipment you accumulate over the years!

Once that was done it was time to say good bye (I don't like good byes, its always 'till next time') to everyone.

Sadly John McNally had shot away quietly, but I was able to say a proper good bye and thanks to Frank, Spencer, John Semark, Phil and Alan Field.

It was only when I got home at 12.30am and had to unload the car, did it finally sink in.

I personally thanked Mike for putting my name forward in 2009 and in 2019, here I am on The Searchers farewell tour.

Mike also went on stage and introduced the band live, rather than on track which he does every night.

The show was another great one and started the last ever week of Searchers shows!

March 2019
On Monday 25th & Tuesday 26th March, I finally went into the studio with very long time friend, Elliott Frisby.

Elliott now runs a music company who work for PEEL Cruises and he organises their onboard shows.

I was asked in January if I could help with a Queen show they were putting together. Of course I said yes.

Finally in late February a date in March was agreed. I was playing Redditch on Sunday 24th and High Wycombe on 27th, so it was agreed those 2 days in a studio in Buckingham.

2 days recording show songs. The first day was Queen songs and 2nd day was for a show called Elementum. This show revolves around Earth, Fire, Water and songs included, Phil Collins, In the air tonight, Take That, Relight my fire, Duran Duran, This is planet Earth etc.

So if you have a PEEL cruise and see a Queen or Elementum show, its me on drums!

It was another emotional night at a sold out Marlowe Theatre with the crowd in fine voice singing all the hits back at us.

The meet & greets are getting longer, with everyone wanting a pic and autograph.

So much so that a few times we have had to be a bit sharp with a few people who have been a little physical with the band.

We understand you want us to look up for your pic, but if we are signing something, that takes priority. If you bang on our back/shoulder asking us to look up, that in turns jolts our arm, which spoils the signature!

Frank has a few times shouted at people who were slapping his back and shouting at him to look up!

We will be there as long as the autographs and pictures takes, but we have just done a 2hr show and travelled to the venue and want to head off home/to our hotel.

Then we can all enjoy the last shows and meet and greets
Scott Ottaway - Official Websitetag:www.scottottaway.com,2005:Post/56395782019-02-12T17:47:27+00:002021-07-28T07:31:14+01:00Concert Toms!!
On February 12th, I took delivery of 10, 12 & 13 inch Liberty concert toms.

I immediately put Code skins on them and tried them out and they sound thunderous!

I have a few different types of Code drum heads on their way to me, but for now they have Generators on them.

I set them up in a Phil Collins style, with my 8" tom, then in a Roger Taylor set up with my 24" bass drum, then with my 20" bass drum.

They are now ready for a quick demo video, which I will post on here soon.

This is show 19 of 60 on the Searchers farewell tour.

This week, as many of you know, the UK was hit was some very harsh weather. We all kept our eyes on the weather forecasts and to date, we have been ok. No shows cancelled and the areas we have played have either missed the snow, or were hit days before we arrived.

Most of the areas that were badly hit, we play next week!

So far most of the shows have been sold out, or very close. Rhyl had over 800 people!

Obviously it is a sad occasion that we won't be playing these venues again, but we take each show as it comes, but I will admit the shows are flying and very soon it will be M.K and March 31st!

It started with 2 nights at Market Drayton to 2 sold out shows and a lot of very sad and emotional fans at the meet & greet after.

The show at The beck Theatre on 12th January, the meet & greet nearly took as long as the show!

Most of the shows on this tour have sold out, with the rest only having a few tickets remaining. www.the-searchers.co.uk for more info.

The new farewell album entered the UK official charts at 35. a good chart position, but the mid week chart showed the album at number 26!

According to John, Morrisons have it as number 22.
Scott Ottaway - Official Websitetag:www.scottottaway.com,2005:Post/55733642018-12-29T14:47:10+00:002019-01-01T11:51:07+00:00Merry Christmas and happy new year
I hope everyone has had a great Christmas and is looking forward to a happy new year.

2019 will be different with just 3 months of Searcher shows and then on March 31st it all comes to an end.

Many people have asked me how I feel about it and while it will be very emotional come March, you can't really think about it as you still have 60 shows to go and each show (nearly all venues are now sold out) will have people seeing us for the last time and that show is important to them and you have to give them the show they deserve.

March 31st at Wavendon playing Needles for the last time, well I'll tell you April 1st how I coped.

Don't forget, Spencer is going out from April with his new solo show and Samsway are proud to be one of his agents. We have 14 shows for him to date (some announced, some not) but keep checking here, www.samsway.co.uk as well as Samsways Facebook page for the latest news and venues.

We also have The Searchers Farewell album which we sell at our shows and is available from all good outlets from January 4th.

I hope 2019 will be a great one for you and I look forward to seeing you at a show soon.

For the last 3 years, I have used a '60s' style 1 hanging tom, 1 floor tom. This is the set up the band used in the 60s and although not my preferred set up, I did adopt it. For the 1st 2 years I used a 12' tom, before moving to a 13' tom.

But, with 4 months of Searchers tours left, I decided to go back to my natural set up.

So on 7th December, I went back to 2 hanging toms. This time I used a 12' & 13" toms.

This set up lasted 2 shows, before I reverted back to 10" & 12". I felt the 12 & 13 toms, being the same depth, sounded too similar in sound.

This set up will remain in place for the remaining shows, although in mid January I will be getting some bigger depth concert toms from Liberty drums!

We were and at 11am on 18th December, we were sat on a train with Kyle heading to London and a tv studio.

The Build interviews were done in a temporary studio and the 18th was their last day. They started early December and had interviews 4 stars every day. The week before, Adam Lambert had been interviewed.

The studio holds 35 invited only guests and you get to see 2 interviews. Our first interview was the male actor in the ITV programme, Torville & Dean. He was also in Game of Thrones and very entertaining. These interviews go out on the internet live. There is then a 15 minute gap before the next interview.

This was the interview we came for, Boy George. What a personality he is. Very entertaining and informative and certainly does not care about what he says, but after being in the industry as long as he has, you fully understand why he doesn't care.

The interview lasted 25 minutes, before he was whisked away. You could tell he wasn't impressed with that as he wanted to meet us all. He had a quick selfie with the audience, apologised and left.

The studio had 2 sofas and a table with fresh mince pies on. During the first interview, the interviewer commented how nice they were and when the interview finished, they took a couple and again told us they were great.

As everyone was leaving, Kyle, Sam and myself jumped onto the set and had pics with us interviewing each other. We then grabbed a mince pie each and left.

We can confirm the mince pies were great!

We then went to a pub across the road and spent £17 on 3 drinks, before going to Carnaby Street to once more visit the Queen pop up shop.

This is to tie in with the new film, Bohemian Rhapsody. (If you have not seen it, go and see it!)

In this shop you will find Brian Mays guitars, Freddie's costumes from the early days, tonnes of Queen, Brian, Freddie and Roger merchandise and....... Rogers first DW kit which he used on the Queen + Paul Rodgers 'Cosmos Rocks' tour.

Of course I had to go and have several hundred pics of me near the kit!

My first drum show this year due to work commitments.

I was working on the 60s Gold tour in Northampton the night before, so not much sleep with an 8am alarm call.

I arrived at Olympia at 10am and soon found Danny, Max Colbran, Richie Burns, Tristan Long, Tony Bourke, Lloyd Ryan, Rachael Jarrett, Phill and Marcus Drew.

We went round the many stalls like a plague of drummers. I even found a pic of me at the CODE stall.

We then watched Colin Woolway deliver a master class and before we knew it, the time was 3.30pm and I had to leave for Norwich.

Thanks to my sat nav taking me through London, I arrived at The Royal Theatre, Norwich at 7.15pm! luckily were not on till 9.35pm

A great time was had meeting so many great shop owners and drummers. can't wait for next year.

With most of the acts having done these tours before, there were no problems, with everyone sticking to their allotted time.

On this tour you really are treated to a wealth of 60s talent and hit songs!

After 11 shows, there have been a few alterations to the line up. Sadly Eddie is very ill and will miss the rest of Vanity Fairs shows, Glenn from the Fortunes also unwell to tour, but both bands have very talented dep musicians in their place.

We wish Eddie and Glenn a very speedy and full recovery and look forward to seeing them on the road very soon.

So when the chance to see Queen + Adam Lambert play at their residence at Park MGM in Las Vegas, Sam and myself just had to take it.

Luckily, there was a 2 week gap in The Searchers schedule. So a few emails later to Frank, John and Alan Field and the dates were blocked out, tickets booked and thanks to lots of friends (Tony Bourke, Frank Brennan & Roger) flights and hotels booked.

Sam has always wanted to stay in a castle, so I booked us into Excalibur, which is a castle, ish and very near Park MGM, which just happens to be next to New York, New York.

The new Park MGM theatre holds 5200 people, designed so everyone gets a perfect view. The venue really is impressive and the sound was perfect. The show its self... Perfect for Vegas. The band looked relaxed with the no travelling and Adam fronted the band as if he had been doing it from day one.

Yes he's no Freddie Mercury, he's not trying to be, but in Adam Lambert, Queen are reborn and musicians like Brian and Roger should be allowed to be playing these vast arenas.

Sam and myself arrived in Las Vegas on Monday 17th, saw the show on the 19th and left for the UK on the 21st. Vegas is very warm in September, but its a place we both really love.

Sadly our singer Gareth now lives in mexico (He got jealous after seeing pics on FB, so is thinking of coming over for it)

Ians birthday bash is on September 8th, but he wanted a few rehearsals before. Due to everyones commitments we got a few dates in July, and August.

The set is all rock and will see us on stage for over 2hrs!

The line up is:

Ian Rose- Guitar, vocals

Andy George- lead guitar, vocals

Colin Willis- bass, vocals

Me- drums, vocals

The band went through a few changes. When myself and Gareth were in the band it was called Fever.

Then Gareth left, Ian came in and it was called Close Contact. then I left...

That first practice proved we all still had it and the chemistry just flowed. Cant wait till the next practice.

The Searchers may be on holiday, but Sam and myself decided not to go away, having already been away in March and looking to go away in September.

That meant we had time to load ourselves up with other activities.

On 9th June, Sam, her brother Dan and myself did a 10k walk round London for Crones & Colitis. We raised over £400 between us.

Sam sadly picked up a hamstring injury a week before, but was determined to complete the walk, which she did

Thank you to everyone who sponsored us!

On 10th June, our good friends Tony Bourke and Christine Stitson finally tied the knot after 20 years together. Tony does not rush into things

The whole day was filled with their love for each other and specially their love for music.

The tables were named after famous albums and the drummer on that album. Sam and myself were on the Roger Taylor (Night at the opera) table. Don't tell him, but I stole the pic of Roger...

The evening was capped off with the brilliant Phil Holbourne band. Phil was the guitarist on We will Rock You. Tony was eventually convinced to get up and bash a Queen tune out.

On Monday 2nd July, Sam, Her brother Daniel, my mum and myself all met up with Tony, chris and a few of his friends to see Queen + Adam Lambert at the O2

Another great night was had (we may have stolen Rogers sticks, don't tell him...) and Adam, Brian and Roger were on fine form rattling through their hits in 2hrs. The night flew past. On this occasion I took a few pics, but decided I actually wanted to take the concert in old school rather than through a camera.

On 22nd June, Sam and myself went to the London Stadium to see The Foo Fighters. While I had seen them before (Sam hadn't) it was my first time at the London Stadium. Being a West Ham fan, that is sad. My first impressions of the stadium are good. I liked it. Ok I've not seen a game there, but for concerts, its one of the best. Even the Foos commented it was better than Wembley.

The concert its self is definitely one of the best Ive ever seen. The band don't stop for over 2.5hrs and clearly then, they wanted to carry on.

The previous one was white, with The Searchers logo and Liberty drums in black.

For the last 12 months, I decided to get a front head which matched the kit.
The Searchers will be retiring on March 31st 2019.

The announcement was made on our website in mid March, after a few fans had noticed theatres advertising shows early 2019 as our retirement tour.

Our Facebook site was taken over with messages asking whats happening.

A more proper announcement will be made over the next month, but a few newspapers picked up on the news and ran stories.

I even got my name & pic in the Express.

So you have 12 months to enjoy the great sound of the Searchers live.

Performing were, Howard Farren-Bradley (Organiser), Siemy Di (Friend & fellow Liberty drums endorser) & Gabor Dornyei.

I had seen Gabor before at the Hideaway a few years back. He also has several very good lessons on Youtube, But this was the first time I had seen Siemy play live.

The event started 2pm and lasted about 3 hours. During that time I was able to chat to all 3 drummers & pick up so much from their drumming.

The event finished with a raffle, which included prizes from Code drum heads.

I was very impressed!

I don't hide the fact that my Liberty kits are based on Roger Taylors Queen + Adam Lambert touring kits (Black sparkle and gold hardware) so I also put the kits in the same configuration Roger has his kits. His main kit and his 2nd stage kit.

In November I finally bought a 'shed' with the intention of soundproofing and turning it in to a studio.

Shortly after delivery. I fractured my wrist, so it has been a very slow process.

by the time I fractured it, I had done the internal electrics and put the soundproofing in, but could not lift the plasterboards.

My good friend/builder/drummer Danny Colbran, kindly came round of Jan 4th and put the plasterboards up for me.

I was then able to plaster the joins and sand everything down.

On Jan 12th, the electrician came round and connected the electrics to the house and wired up the plugs, lights and security devices and I was able to get on with painting the walls.

It does look good inside with just the flooring to do, which I will get done next week (22,23,24) then move all my studio equipment and drums in.

For the shorter, it will be just electronic kit and a Bill Sanders practice kit for teaching and later this year the plan is for Danny to brick over the shed, turning it into a room in a room and hopefully soundproof enough for an acoustic drum kit.
Scott Ottaway - Official Websitetag:www.scottottaway.com,2005:Post/50321832018-01-19T15:26:17+00:002018-01-19T15:26:17+00:002018 tour & fractured wrist
We started back on the road at The Beck on January 6th and John was looking a lot better after his recent health issues.

I had a removable cast on my right wrist after fracturing it late November 2017

I was playing in goal, made a brilliant save, but thought I had sprained my wrist.

I carried on doing the shows, but on December 20th decided to go to the hospital to see if I had done ligament damage.

The doctor checked but decided an X-ray was needed.

After the X-ray he asked me what my money was on, a sprain or break?

I replied sprain. No!! its fractured. a short conversation followed about how I can't have a cast and it was agreed a removable cast would be ok.

I returned to the hospital on 2nd Jan and was told its healing well

After The Beck, I was in a bit of pain, but we then had 8 days off.

We returned to work on Jan 15th at Hornchurch and the wrist was a lot better.
Scott Ottaway - Official Websitetag:www.scottottaway.com,2005:Post/50321672018-01-19T15:14:54+00:002018-01-19T15:14:54+00:00Happy new Year!!!
Happy new year everyone!

I hope 2018 will be a great year for you.

I think its safe to say, not everyone had an amazing 2017.

The highlight for me was getting married, but after that, it went down hill and really was a year of 4 weddings and a funeral.

onwards and upwards
Scott Ottaway - Official Websitetag:www.scottottaway.com,2005:Post/50321662018-01-19T15:12:46+00:002018-01-19T15:12:46+00:0060s Gold Tour 2017
We finished the 60s Gold Tour on December 3rd with 2 shows in leeds.

What a tour! towards the end you never knew who was going to turn up.

We were a member down, with Steve Thompson from The Pacemakers replacing John. Gerry Marsden didn't make the last 3 shows of his farewell tour, The Tremeloes had so many changes to their line up, in the end they ended up with 4 members.

Brian was off for a few days, Chip and Dave both missed a few shows so Mike from the Rubbetts was drafted in to take over from who ever was off!

For the last 3 shows all the Trems were well, so with Mike, they had 4 singers on stage.

The Fortunes replaced the Trems for the O2 show and The Merseybeats replaced The Trems for Southampton and then Gerry for the last 3 shows.

Steve Ellis and Vanity Fare ploughed on with no issues.

Everyone had a great tour and there was such a camaraderie with everyone involved with it.

We will be doing it all again next year!
Scott Ottaway - Official Websitetag:www.scottottaway.com,2005:Post/49148392017-11-01T15:32:19+00:002022-04-29T07:07:27+01:00More Drum Cams
I have published 2 more drum cams.

The first is a rehearsal we had playing Farmer John with Steve Thompson.

The second is from our show in Southampton, Sugar & Spice.

I recorded the Norwich & Southampton shows with 3 cameras. ( Zoom Q8 & 2 Akaso EK7000)

Thanks to the Zoom Q8, which gets a left & right feed from the desk, the sound quality has improved drastically from the on stage sound the GoPro was getting.

I hope to publish a load more very soon.

Its the editing that takes so much time.
Scott Ottaway - Official Websitetag:www.scottottaway.com,2005:Post/49148322017-11-01T15:28:30+00:002017-11-01T15:28:30+00:0060s Gold Tour 2017
On September 30th 2017, the 60s Gold tour kicked off in Weymouth.

This tour has been billed as Gerry Marsden's final tour, although he has a few shows in early 2018 which are shows that got rescheduled from June/July this year.

Also on the bill are Vanity Fair, The Pacemakers, Brian Poole, Chip Hawkes, Dave Munden & Steve Ellis.
